According to 2022 Census Data, the U.S. lost 142,000 farms in the 5 years between 2017 and 2022. During that same period, Wisconsin lost 10% of its farms. In 2022, with a prayer, our family decided to buck the trend, bought 30 acres of a bean field with a majestic view of the Basilica at Holy Hill, and established the Urlakis Family Farm, LLC-our family homestead.
Three years into this adventure has taught us a lot. God is good! Everything we do is in recognition of His Merciful Love and Divine Providence. Every day is a gift- one that takes hard work and resilience, but a tremendous gift, nonetheless.
We have been motivated in part by a desire to return to the basic, which includes growing nutritious, delicious food for ourselves and others. Our seasonal produce is available both via our farmstand and at our booth at the Richfield Farmers Market. Our eggs (chicken, duck, quail, and goose) are also available to purchase. Our farm products can be viewed under the “Products” tab on this website.
Early on, we were offered the opportunity to provide a home for three former champion alpacas. In addition to producing magnificent fiber, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, have served as mascots for our family farm. In 2023, the opportunity to rescue 15 former champion alpacas presented itself. One of the alpacas, Sweetie Hershey’s Kiss was pregnant at the time of rehoming, and in January 2025 – on the coldest day of the year- she delivered a 16-pound cria- Sophia Julianna. In the autumn of 2025, we added 6 additional champion alpacas. We now have quite a herd- 24 alpacas and growing! We sell fiber and products from the shearing of the alpacas.
Most of our acreage is actively farmed by our son, Joseph. This land produces terrific hay, some of which is enjoyed by our alpacas and goats, and much of which is available for sale. See the “Pleasant Hill Farm Hay” tab on this site for details.
Thank you for your interest in our growing family farm.
“May the favor of the Lord be upon us. May He prosper the work of our hands (Psalm 90:17).”
